Proagro 9555 (MSH167) is a pearl millet hybrid developed by Bayer Bio-Science Private Ltd. and released by Central Sub-committee on Crop Standards, Notification and Release of Variety vide Notification No. S.O. 72(E) dated January 10, 2008. This hybrid is recommended for cultivation in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Tamilnadu during summer season. The hybrid MSH167 was developed with the objectives of high grain and fodder yield, downy mildew resistance and tolerance to high temperature. Proagro 9555 (MSH167) is a conventionally bred single cross hybrid involving a d2 dwarf seed parent and a tall restorer parent.
The hybrid attains a height of 170–180 cm and matures in 80–85 days with grain yield of 30-40q per ha. It possesses attractive long and thick compact panicles with excellent shiny grey grain color. The grain shape is obovate and 1000 grain weight is 10–12 g. This hybrid produces 2–3 effective tillers with good synchrony. The culm at base is pigmented but nodes are green and pubescent. The ear heads are cylindrical with complete exertion. It has shown tolerance to all major pests of pearl millet. The hybrid Proagro 9555 is suitable for high input conditions. The grain possesses good roti making quality and stay green character. It is tolerant to downy mildew and high temperature. Seed production of this hybrid (MSH167) has no problem because the staggering periods have been worked out for major seed production areas.This hybrid is produced and marketed by Bayer Bioscience Pvt.
