Inheritance of leaf shape and pod pubescence in fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.)

Pod pubescence and leaf shape in fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) could be used as prominent morphological markers in genetic studies. The study on mode of inheritance revealed that pubescence on pods is determined by a single dominant gene. The gene symbol G_p is proposed to designate the pubescence. Similarly the acute tip of the leaf is governed by a single dominant gene, which is designated as A_t. Considering both the traits together i.e., round leaf vs acute leaf and glabrous vs pubescent leaf, the genetic study revealed that both the genes inherit independently.
