Coconut milk at a concentration of 30 to 50% proved to contain some ‘embryo factor’ essential for healthy growth of young tomato embryos. Malt extract and tomato juice stopped the germination when used in high concentrations in the medium but they did not encourage further embryonic differentiation. Growing excised embryos in the medium kept in an atmosphere of nitrogen instead of air did not make any perceptible difference in their growth.
