An experiment was conducted to study the effects of two types of buds (with-and without wood) and two plant regulators (IAA and IBA) at 0, 500, 1000 and 1500 p.p.m. in 50 per cent alcohol, applied by quick-dip method, on budding of grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macf.) on Karna Khatta (Citrus karna Raf.) rootstock.
The percentage of bud take and success was significantly aifected by the different treatments, while the vigour of the scion shoot remained unaffected. Insertion of bud after removal of wood proved superior to its retention. Instantaneous-dip of buds in solution of plant regulator in 50 per cent alcohol before insertion into the matrix markedly increased the success (about 150 per cent) and IBA was much better than IAA in this respect. 1000 p.p.m. was found to be the best concentration, but IAA can be safely applied even at higher concentrations upto 1500 p.p.m.
