Abstract

1. Detailed morphological studies were conducted in seven pomegranate varieties, namely, Dholka, Double Flower, G.B.-l, Japanese Dwarf, Kandhari, Muscat White and Patiala.

2 Dholka and Muscat White pomegranate varieties were found to be most suitable for commercial cultivation under Delhi conditions. In both the cases, the fruit set was high and fruits were large and attractive. Their seeds were soft, more fleshy and sweet.

3. A key for identification of pomegranate varieties was formulated. More stable and dependable morphological characters were taken in preference to physiological and agronomical ones. It is hoped that the key will either be applicable as such to other varieties grown in various parts of the country or at least make a basis for further modifications.
