The effect of the micronutrient elements on the growth of mango seedlings have been studied. The results show that the trace elements viz., Mn, Zn, B, Cu, Mg, are all indispensable for the healthy growth of mango plants. It was observed that the leaf size was the smallest under zinc deficiency followed by boron and copper. Under manganese and magnesium deficiency the leaves were nearly of the same size as under full nutrient solutions. The characteristic deficiency symptoms under manganese were found commencing with mottling of leaf followed by complete yello wing with dark brown pin head like spats scatteied all over the laminae accompanied with tip necrosis Under magnesium deficiency yellowish white areas first appeared on both sides of the mid-rib in between the principal veins and then spreaded outward towards the margin. Zinc seems to be the most essential for the growth of the plants as the growth was found to be the much stunted under (−Zn) treatment.
Pioper diagnosis of the deficiency symptoms of boron and copper could not be done due to varied symptoms.
