Abstract

None of the varieties of Phaseolus vulgaris L. tested was found to be completely resistant. In most of the varieties the number of diseased spots ranged between 16–45 per square inch of the leaf area. Eighteen varieties, viz., Kentucky Wonder, Canadian round, Canadian long red, Rajmah selections R6 and R7., I. C. 7803, 7815, 7816-B, 8258, 9570, 9583, 9594, E. C. 18325, 18519, 18609-B, 19038, 22123 and 22124 showed light infection with 6, 12, 9, 12, 15, 13, 12, 3, 7, 12, 15, 15, 9, 10, 14, 9, 14 and 7 spots per square inch of the leaf area, respectively. Seventy six varieties behaved as susceptible with 16–46 spots. The remaining 17 varieties were highly susceptible with more than 46 spots per square inch of the leaf area. Of all the commercial varieties in cultivation, Kentucky Wonder is promising.
