Abstract

Field trials were carried out to find out the efficacy of different insecticides/chemicals for the control of bark eating caterpillars attacking guava trees in the guava orchard at the College of Agriculture, Rewa, during 1969–70. Twenty four insecticides/chemical have been tested, replicated four times on 150 infested trees of the guava orchard. All treatments proved their superiority over check. With regard to cheapness, availability and handling, kerosene was the best treatment, dichlorovus 0.025 per cent the expensive. However, kerosene, DDT 0.04 per cent, malathion 0.04 per cent, dimethoate 0.04 per cent, ED/CT mixture were the cheapest treatments amongst the chemicals having non-insecticidal property, chlorinated hydrocarbons, organo-phosphorus, systemics and fumigants groups respectively while the expensive being chloroform endrin 0.04 per cent, parathion 0.04 per cent, dichlorovus 0.025 per cent and phostoxin in the above respective groups.
