Abstract

The investigations on the response of Phlox, Calendula and Dianthus to different dates of sowing was carried out at U.P. Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Kanpur. The early sowing from August 21 to September 21 resulted rapid and better germination of seed, more vegetative growth in terms of height and number of branches per plant which ultimately resulted in more number of good quality flowers. On the basis of results obtained it can safely be recommended that Phlox, Calendula and Dianthus should be sown early i.e. 3rd week of August to 3rd week of September for vigorous growth and more flowering under northern Indian conditions. Late sowing of these annuals results in stunted growth and reduced number of flowers.
