Abstract

Correlation and regression studies were conducted on a collection of french bean varieties. Significant positive correlations of fruit-set with pods per plant, and pod yield per plant with pods per plant and pod length were observed. Pods per plant showed a positive significant correlation with seed yield per plant. Protein content of green pods possessed significant negative correlations with both pod yield per plant and seed yield per plant. Partial regressions of pod yield per plant on pods per plant and length of pod were found to be significant. Similarly a partial regression of seed yield per plant on pod yield per plant was also significant. Partial regression of protein content of green pods on pod yield per plant and seed yield per plant were not found to be significant. On the basis of the partial regression coefficients, suitable selection indices were constructed.
