Abstract

Studies have been conducted to compare the effect of surface method and sub-surface drip method of irrigation on the yield of potato. The sub-surface drip method of irrigation consisted in laying a perforated plastic pipe at the root zone of the crop and feeding the water daily. Fertilizer was also blended with the irrigation water. Significant increase in yield of potato has been observed with such a method as compared to conventional surface method. Availability of low cost plastic pipes should make installation of such systems cheaper.
