Hybrid Vigour in Bhindi

An experiment was conducted during rainy season of 1969 at Vegetable Research Station of U. P. Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Kanpur, for examining eleven crosses of bhindi for hybrid vigour in respect of seven quantitative characters. For plant height one cross (KB x 6103), for number of branches per plant two crosses (5614 x Ti and 6102 x 6001), for fruit length two crosses (6102 x T₁ and 5704 x 6102), for fruit thickness one cross (5614 x T₁), for number of fruits per plant one cross (KB x 6102) and for fruit yield per plant two crosses (6102 x T₁ and KB x 6102) have shown positive hybrid vigour. Cross involving Kalianpur Bonia and 6102 excelled all the crosses as it showed hybrid vigour for plant height and number of fruits and yield per plant.
