Abstract

The allopolyploid has been synthesized in C. infundibuliformis with the use of calchicine. Gigas condition was observed in regard to the number of external morphological characters of the polyploid as compared to its diploid. The polypolid produced bigger sized and attractive flowers as compared to the normal plant. The 2n and n number of chromosomes in the diploid was 38 and 19, while in the polyploid it was 76 and 38 respectively. Probable causes of the occurrence of gigas condition and failure to set the seed in the polyploid have been discussed. The vegetative propagation could make the production of the autopolyploid Aboli a commercial proposition.
