A field experiment was conducted for the control of leaf spot of sapota during 1969–70 and 1970–71, with five different fungicides. Monthly sprays of Dithane Z-78 (0.2 per cent) and Lonacol (0.3 per cent) closely followed by Blitox (0.5 per cent) and Cuman (0.2 per cent) proved effective. The disease was prevalent at Bangalore throughout the year with varying intensitites and resulted into severe defoliation. Maximum incidence was observed in October, November and December. Dithane sprays gave the highest average yield of 176 kg per tree per year as compared to 153, 135 and 130 kg, respectively with Blitox, Fytolan and Control treatments. An additional income of Rs. 42.15 per tree was achieved every year with Dithane Z-78 sprays and was most economical.
