Abstract

Late blight is a major problem of the potato crop in north western region of India. Two of the potato varieties namely, Kufri Jyoti and Kufri Jeevan evolved at the Central Potato Research Institute, have shown a high degree of field resistance to late blight both in the foliage and tubers. The yield of these varieties is 150 per cent higher than the commercial susceptible variety Up-to-Date. Details about the morphological characteristics, resistance to diseases and yield potential of the varieties are given.
