The inheritance study of seven qualitative characters in pea (Piswn sativum L.) was made through F1 and F2 populations of two crosses. Hard parchment like membrane in the pod shell, flat surface of the pod, straight shape of the pod, deep green pod and foliage colour, profuse tendril formation and round seed surface were found monogenic dominant over the absence of parchment like membrane in the pod shell, beaded surface of the pod, curved pod shape, light green colour of the pods and foliage, sparse tendril formation and wrinkled seed surface respectively. Each of the four pairs of characters viz., presence of parchment like membrane in the pod shell and flat surface of the pod; absence of parchment like membrane in the pod shell and beaded surface of the pod; deep green pod and foliage colour; and light green pod and foliage colour was found to be controlled by the same gene, a case of pleiotropy or closely linked genes.
