Abstract

A detailed study on the mode of transmission, host range, symptomatology and physical properties of the canna mottle virus shows that it is new virus. Besides canna, it infects Z. mays, H. vulgare, P. typhoides, C. antiquorum, V. sinensis, P. lunatvs, Z. elegans, G. globosa and P. hybrida. M. persicae is a very potent vector; besides, it has three additional vectors viz. A. gossypii, A. rumicis and R. maidis. Thermal inactivation point lies between 65°—70°C, dilution end point between 1:7,500 to 1:8,000 and longevity at room temperature (28°—32°c) is 14 days.
