Abstract

Occurrence of chimera and gene mutations in pineapple cultivar ‘Kew’ for some leaf characters are reported. The need of rouging the undesirable plant types is emphasised for maintenance of purity of the clone in order to obtain consistent quality and yield in pineapple. ‘Kew’ variety appears to be in a heterozygous form for smooth spiny tip character wherein a mutation leading to homozygous recessive leads to spini-ness, the loci being highly mutable.
