Abstract

At present 95per cent of the total apple production in the State is marketed through commission-contract sales which has made contractors and commission agents the main beneficiaries. There is a wide scope to benefit the growers and consumers by lowering the price spread through reduction in the marketing costs. This can be achieved by promoting co-operative marketing and by increasing the volume of sale directly to consumers.
