Abstract

A pruning experiment in which the length of canes was varied inversely to their number on the vines, the total number of buds on the vines held constant, was carried out with Beauty Seedless vines. With increase in the number of buds on a cane, per cent bud burst and fruitful shoots decreased linearly. The yields from vines with canes pruned to 4 and 6 buds were higher than those pruned to longer canes. Maturity of the fruit was not affected.
