Abstract

Investigations on the effect of seven rootstocks for the commercially grown variety Coorg mandarin (C. reticulata Blanco) and a comparative study of rootstocks and seedling Coorg mandarin with respect to bearing and fruit quality aspects for seven years period have been presented and the results are discussed.

The rootstocks Belladakithuli (C. maderaspatna Tanaka), Baduvapuli (C. pennivisiculata Tanaka) and rough lemon (C. jambhiri lush) have given more yield (Number) than other rootstocks and also seedling Coorg mandarin. The use of Sour orange [C. aurantium (Linn), Osbeck], acid lime (C. aurantifolia Swingle) and Naichokotha (C. grandis) have been proved failure for Coorg mandarin with respect to yield, but recorded more juice per cent and TSS content and low in acid. Ascorbic acid content was fairly good in fruits from acid lime and Sour orange stocks. Kama Khatta gave fruits with low juice and TSS, and high acid. Fruit yield was low in Seedling Coorg mandarin, but gave high TSS and Acid ratio. Effect of periods (years) on fruit yield and fruit quality was also studied.
