Abstract

Lab and field studies were conducted during 1971–73 to findout the effectiveness of insecticides against pests of cucurbits particularly pumpkin beetle, Raphidopalpa (Aulacophora) foveicollis Lucas. A insecticidal schedule consisting of carbaryl 5 per cent dusting (0.75 kg a.i./ha) at 6 weeks and 0.1 per cent spraying (1 kg a.i./ha) at 8 and 10 weeks of sowing of ridgegourd proved most effective than others in controlling the pumpkin beetle and reducing the fruitfly, Dacus cucurbitae Coq. incidence. This has also resulted in significant increase in yield and net profit.
