Colletotrichum gloeosporioides causes latent infection of apparently healthy citrus twigs. It was isolated from 27–93.4 per cent pieces plated from various species and varieties of citrus. The latent infection was found mostly confined to the bark region and certain amount of the pathogen penetrated in the wood as well. Fifty seven per cent of the axillary buds were infected in a latent form. Surface sterilization with 0.1 per cent mercuric chloride has no effect on the latent infection when sterilized for a period of 90 minutes.
