Abstract

A study was made to assess the suitability of the ‘drip’ system of irrigation on the crop performance in okra. The results revealed that even at one sixth of the normal water intake (in the furrow system), the drip system of irrigation matched the former in total yields. Another noteworthy finding was that even at this reduced level of water utilization, the early yields (yield in the first five harvest) partly contributed by increase in the number of pods produced and partly due to increase in pod size were significantly increased in the new system.
