An experiment was conducted to study the effect of growth substances and nitrogen on the Vegetative development, yield and quality of pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata. Duchasne) CV Vaidyabati at the Horticultural Research Station, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar during March to June, 1973. In a split plot randomised block design, the growth substances (Alar 100 and 200 ppm, Ethrel 100, 200 ppm and Planofix 100 and 200 ppm and control) was accomodated, while 0, 20, 40 kg/ha of nitrogen was accommodated in the subplot. The treatments were replicated three times. The observations recorded on various factor showed that growth regulators had significant effect on the vegetative growth while nitrogen with the growth substance helped the growth yield and quality of fruit. Thus Alar 200 to 100 ppm with 40 kg/ha of Nitrogen increased the yield and quality followed by Ethrel 200 ppm with 40 kg/ha and Planofix with 40 kg/ha.
