Subtropical peach trees put forth excessive shoot growth year after year under Tarai conditions of U. P. and to control it, a study on the effect of treatments such as no fertilizer, three levels each of P2O5 and K2O and foliar spray of Alar at three concentrations was made. Shoot growth was remarkably redcuced by 1000 and 2000 ppm of Alar over a period of two years, as well as to some extent by soil application of P2O5. However, complete absence of nitrogen from all the treatments resulted in trees losing vigour and giving weakly appearance. The growth data has also been supplemented by N, P and K content of leaves analysed at different intervals.
