Effect of Chemical Thinning on the Fruit Size and Quality on Plum Cv. Methley*

The experiments conducted on the heavy bearing plum cultivar Methley (Prunus salicina Lindl.) at the Regional Fruit Research Station, Mashobra (HP) during 1974 and 1975 with chemical thinners revealed that NAA at the rate of 40 ppm, DNOC at the rate of 50 ppm thinned the fruits to 38.3 per cent and 40.3 per cent during 1974 and 39 per cent and 42.3 per cent during 1975 respectively. The fruit size and fruit quality was improved by the chemical as well as by hand thinning.
