Abstract

Scientific multiple cropping in vegetable crops is an important programme that ensures to optimise the income per unit area and time. In order to evaluate some judicious rotations of vegetable crops, experiments were conducted at the

Vegetable Experimental Area, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana for two years (1972–73 and 1973–74). The treatments consisted of 12 different rotations. It was observed that three-four crops can be raised successfully on the same piece of land in one year which offer better returns as compared to a rotation involving 2 crops per year. The best rotations were:

Potato (seed)-Carrot (seed)-Okra (seed)

Brinjal-Turnip-Muskmelon

Cauliflower-Tomato-Okra (green)

Brinjal-Late Cauliflower-Bottle-gourd.

Early cauliflower-Potato-Okra (green)+Bitter-gourd.
