Eight cauliflower crosses were compared with their parents and a standard variety Giant Snow Ball under two sowing dates (2-8-73 and 22-8-73) for maturity period and curd weight. Four hybrids were earlier in maturity than mid parent and one was earlier than the early parent even. All the hybrids were earlier in maturity than the standard variety. The effect of sowing date was less on four hybrids than their respective parents. In case of S-35 x S-36, the effects on parents and on F1 were reverse of each other. Three hybrids exceeded the respective better parents by 34.1, 29.0 and 11.7 per cent and two of them exceeded the standard variety as well by 27.1 and 12.4 percent.
