Abstract

Pomegranate is one of the favourite minor fruit of Maharashtra, because of its drought tolerance character. Muskat is the most popular variety of Kolhar region of Maharashtra. As the orchards are of seed origin, lot of variability is present. The study was therefore, carried out in the private orchards, to locate desirable types.

Taking into consideration all desirable characters, five best promising types like, P-23, P-16, SK-1, P-13, P-26 were selected. Considering all characters studied, P-23, is by for the most superior to standard Ganesh variety and would hence prove a very good selection. The other four selections also superseeds in most of the characters over standard Ganesh. In short it is rather good achievement in breeding pomegranates for better types than existing one.
