Abstract

The F1, F2, B1 and B2 generations studied along with their parents in the year 1972 at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana for the genetic analysis of yield and fruit numbers. Low yield showed over-dominance over the high yield and low fruit number was partially dominant over high. Additive gene effects (d) were significant at 5 per cent level for yield in cross special No. 1 x Charleston Grey. The additive gene effects were also significant at 5 per cent and 1 per cent level for number of fruits in cross special No. 1 x Charleston Grey and Sweet Princess X Special No. 1 respectively. For number of fruits, the additive component of variance was important in both the crosses but for yield dominance was highest. Heritability estimates in narrow sense were low and medium for yield and fruit number respectively. The number of effective factors involved were 1 to 2 for yield and at least one for fruit numbers.
