Abstract

With a view to determine the optimum leaf-to-fruit ratio in Anab-e-Shahi grape (Vitis vinifera L.), effect of 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 leaves per bunch was studied on growth and quality of berries. Significant positive correlations were observed between leaf area per bunch and the bunch weight, T. S. S. content. Brix-acid ratio and sugar yield per bunch while the correlations of leaf area with titratable acid content and percentage of immature hard berries were significantly negative. The maximum size and best quality of berries was obtained when 15 leaves were left to a bunch giving an area of 3,064 cm2. The percentage of highly acidic and immature hard berries increased when the leaves per bunch were reduced to 9 or leaf area of 2,152 cm2 and below.
