Abstract

Blossom biology of varieties Umran, Banarsi Karaka, Kakrola Gola, Sandhura Narnaul, Gola Gurgaon No. 3, Jallundhary and BG 70 has been reported. Blossoms appear on current growth as well as one year old growth. Inflorescence is axillary cyme. Flowers are pentamerous rarely tetramerous and possess intrastaminal disc. At Hissar flowering duration is from August or September to November with full bloom in October. BG 70 and Umran are earliest to flower. Initiation to opening of floral buds takes 20–22 days. Antnesis occurs at 7 a.m. insome and at midday in other varieties. Dehiscence takes place after 3 to 3.5 hours of anthesis. Stigma becomes fully receptive after 24 hours of anthesis. Pollen of all the varieties are highly viable.
