Abstract

Holotrichia consanguinea (Blanchard) beetles did considerable damage to fruit trees. Almond was most preferred followed by ber, plum, grape-vine and peach. The adult beetles which emerged from the soil between 19.30 to 20.00 during their peak period of emergence (June-July), continued feeding throughout the night. The beetles after feeding on the treated plants became moribund, failed to re-enter the soil and were eaten up by the bank mynahs and crows during morning hours. Spray of carbaryl (0.1 per cent) caused significantly higher mortaily than fenitrothion (0.05 per cent). Significantly more beetles died on the first day after spraying than subsequent days.
