Studies were conducted to find the role of endogenous growth regulators and exogenous application of plant growth promoters in the rooting of Mains prunifolia L., M-9, M-26 and Starking Delicious (Malus domestica Borkh). Investigations have revealed that in M-9, M-26 and Starking Delicious which failed to root, the activity of extractable inhibitors with ABA like activity was more. ABA like activity was less in the cuttings of Malus prunifolia which rooted easily. This suggests relationship between the rooting capacity and inhibitor content in the cuttings. Quick dipping of Malus prunifolia cuttings in IBA solution of 1250 and 2500 ppm gave higher percentage of rooting.
