Abstract

Phenotypically thirteen different varieties of mandarin were evaluated for fourteen phisico-chemical traits by genetic parameter during 1976 and 1977. Very high variability was observed for most of the traits. High genetypic co-efficient of variation was observed for acidity, T. S. S/acid ratio, number of juice sacs and fruit weight. Average fruit weight, number of juice sacs and number of seeds per fruit, T. S. S./acid ratio and citric acid g/100 ml juice exhibited high heritability. T.S.S./acid ratio, number juice sacs and average fruit weight appeared to be governed by additive gene effect while non-additive gene effect was observed for the number of seeds. Environmental influence on genotypic co-efficient of variation and genetic advance was observed for certain traits.
