Abstract

Investigations were carried out at the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore during 1973–74 and 1974–75 to evaluate the economics of nitrogen fertilization of medicinal yam. It was observed that there was significant response to nitrogen application upto 300 kg per ha and the nature of response was found to be quadratic. Averaged over two years, the optimum level of nitrogen was found to be 379.5 kg per ha. Sensitivity analysis indicated that optimum level of nitrogen and expected response increased with the increasing price of output at constant input cost and decreased with the increasing cost of input at constant output value. But the efficiency of nitrogen utilization showed just the opposite trend. The nitrogen utilization efficiency was more sensitive to changes in input cost than the changes in output value.
