Seeds of 2x and 4x Trigonella foenum-graecum L. were treated with 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 per cen DES and in combination with 0.50 per cent DMSO at 7pH for 3 hours at 30±1°C to study the response of diploid and tetraploids to DES and in combination with DMSO. Studies along different parameters indicated that the effect of DES on tetraploids was mild. DES in combination with DMSO displayed increased mutagenic effectiveness, mainly in 4x. DMSO appears to act as an effective carrier to DES. These findings have been compared with the results of our earlier EMS experiment.
