Abstract

Ethrel was applied on August 22, September 5 and September 20, 1976 (6, 4, 2 weeks before anticipated harvest) at 250, 500, 1000 ppm and indicated that:—

Ethrel at 500, 1000 ppm sprayed on August 22 and September 5, 1976 significantly induced maximum fruit detachment.

Ethrel at 500 ppm sprayed on August 22 and September 5, 1976 accelerated fruit diameter, size, showed higher acid content, significantly better taste and flavour.

Ethrel at 1000 ppm sprayed on August 22, and September 5, 1976 showed significantly maximum fruit softness and an off colour development (yellow colouration).

Maximum percentage soluble solids due to Ethrel at 500 ppm sprayed on September 5, 1976.

All the treatments showed an increase in weight and volume irrespective of application.
