A 5 × 5 diallel analysis was conducted to obtain information on genetic architecture of population and also to isolate best parent for hybridization programme. Though the estimates of both gca and sca variances were significant, the magnitude of gca variances were higher than sca indicating the predominant role of additive genes. Graphic and components analysis also exhibited the prevalence of additive action of genes. The per se performance of parents had high relationship with their general combining ability effects. The parent KT2, 6802 and Rajani and cross 3 × 5, 1 X2 and 1 x5 were found to be good and should be exploited. High heritability (narrow sense) was observed for all the characters. A breeding plan which may mob up additive gene effect effectively and can maintain certain degree of heterozygosity in bean has been suggested for maximum exploitation.
