Abstract

Granular formulations of insecticides, i.e. carbofuran, disulfoton, lindane, phorate, aldicarb and mephosfolan (1.5 kg ai/ha) were applied at the time of sowing. Aldicarb proved the most promising treatment in preventing the infestation of plants by the fly. Aldicarb gave 37 per cent more yield over the control as against 16–24 per cent in other insecticidal treatments. Cost investment appraisal of the treatments revealed highest net gain of Rs. 720/ha in the case of aldicarb treatment followed by disulfoton (Rs. 345/ha) and phorate (Rs. 211/ha).
