Canes were pruned to 2, 4, 6 and 8 buds. The number of buds burst per cane was the highest in 6 bud canes and the rate of shoot growth was also higher in 6 and 8 bud canes. The percentage of cluster dearing shoots, yield, bunch weight and number of berries per bunch increased proportionately with the number of buds left on the canes. However, mean berry size and T. S. S. were higher in 4 bud treatment. Canes thicker than 1 cm produced higher percentage of clustered shoots, yield, mean bunch weight and number of berries.
