Studies were carried out during 1975 and 1276 on Musambi sweet orange budded on eight rootstocks. Observations on tree growth, yield, fruit quality, nutrient status of leaves and sugars, alcohol insoluble carbohydrates and phenolics in the bark and incidence of greening were recorded. In tree volume Jatti Khatti excelled all the rootstocks followed by Rangpur lime. In fruit yield also, this rootstock proved to be the best. Citrumelo, Troyer and Carrizo were observed to have poor compatibility with Musambi as all plants died in the young stage. Leaf N was found in the low range while Zn in the deficient range in all the combinations. Phosphorus was in the low to marginally optimum range, whereas K was in the high to excess range except on Pectinifera where it was in the optimum range. Among the micronutrients, Fe was in the optimum range and B varied from high to excess level. Presence of greening virus was found in all the combinations.
