Abstract

A study on the mode of inheritance of skin colour, sutures, flesh colour and juiciness in muskmelon was carried out at the vegetable Research Farm of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The cross between Hara Madhu (light yellow skin, Prominant sutures, green flesh and juicy) and Earligold (Dark green skin, suture absent, Salmon flesh and non-juicy) wash made. Monogenic nature of inheritance was observed for light yellow skin colour, Salmon flesh colour absence of sutures and non-juicy nature of fruits. Salmon flesh colour and absence of sutures showed complete dominance over the green flesh and presence of sutures, however, no dominance of light yellow skin and less juicy nature. There was absence of linkage between sutures and flesh colour and skin colour and juiciness.
