Abstract

Some physiological changes influenced by presowing dormany—releasing treatment of gladiolus cormels with benzyladenine (BA) were examined. An increase in amylase activity and consequent rise in starch-breakdown, level of sugars and respiratory activity, as observed here prior to sprouting, could explain the BA-induced promotion of growth and release of dormancy of dormant buds.
