An examination of soil profiles from vineyards of Agra and Meerut districts in Uttar Pradesh showed that the soils had fairly high organic matter content and were adequately supplied with essential macronutrient elements. The organic carbon, total N, available P and exchangeable K tended to decrease with depth. Mobilization of exchangeable Ca and Mg down the profile was minimal.
