Protein, sugar and amino acid contents of different intensities of granulation were recorded in two sweet orange varieties, viz., Jaffa and Hamlin [Citrus sinensis (L) Osbeck], with a view to elucidate the possible physiological changes brought about by this disorder. Granulation was associated with decrease in protein and soluble sugars and the accumulation of free amino acids. It was concluded that granulation may be the cause, of metablic stress for the utilization of soluble sugars in protein synthesis.
