Abstract

In the present study the minimum and maximum heterosis observed were 0.32 and 177.37 per cent in weight of fruit and breadth of fruit, respectively. The increase in yield over their respective better parents in heterotic hybrids ranged from their respective better parents in heterotic hybrids ranged from 6–50 to 142.19 per cent. In order of merit, combination DMP × IMK, PPC × P. K. and DMP × S-5 were the best performing for total yield per plant and its many component characters and they showed 142.19, 132.55 and 118.68 per cent higher yield respectively than the better parent. Eight other crosses also out yielded the better parent. Two crosses DMP × IMK and PPC × S-16 showed higher yield even than the top parent (S-16). These two croses therefore can be recommended for commercial growing.
