Abstract

The mycelium of the fungus R. solani was found to be present in all the parts of the seeds of bittergourd and muskmelon in varying proportion. The inter and intracellulor mycelium was located in cotyledons of muskmelon and bittergourd. The fungus remained viable in seeds of both the hosts for 14 months while in culture it survived for 29 months. Seed treatment with Captan and NF. 44 to bittergourd and NF. 44 and Vitavax to muskmelon showed highly improved emergence of healthy seedlings from infected seed.
