Investigations were undertaken to study the effect of GA 3 and 2, 4-D on the bunches of “Kottaivazhai” a physiological disorder— a predisposition to seediness in the fruits of banana cv. Poovan (AAB). The growth of the plants of “Kottaivazhai” was vigorous as they recorded highest mean height and girth of the pseudostem than the normal Poovan: “Kottaivazhai” could be identified by the development of streaks, striations and more blotches on the pseudostem and leaves; and the bunches are held horizontally as against the geotropical posture of bunches in the normal Poovan. Both GA and 2, 4-D application could overcome this malady by producing bunches comparable and better than the normal Poovan in respect of bunch weight, maturity and quality of fruits.
